Hey Non-Jobbers!

First, I want you to know how proud I am of you and whatever
efforts you have taken towards building your Non-Job.

I realize that you might not be where you want to be just yet.
You might still be working on the first rung of the “Non-Job
Ladder”, or…

…you might not even know what you want your Non-Job to be
just yet. But you have begun thinking about it and you are
considering how you might do this.

Awareness and thinking are the seeds to all human creativity.
You are setting into motion all of the energies that will converge
to guide you towards your success.

You might not see it yet, but big things are happening though you.
The only thing you need to remember is… Stay out of the way!

That means… don’t get too frustrated and quit, or take some
ungrounded and hysterical which throws you off course.

Keep your mind on your star and you feet firmly on the
ground.

Anyway, the point of this e mail is not just to pump you up with
feel-good language… it is the stir you into action.

In my journey of growing my Non-Job I have invested tens of
thousands of dollars to “get close to” mentors in the field of
business and marketing. I did this because I knew that by
sitting with a man who IS where I would like to be would elevate
my game.

This is always true, no matter the journey.

When you sit with “the master” he imparts his wisdom in a way
that you could never get though written or distant communication.

If you think I’m full of shit, then just consider Teiko Reindorf (the
guy that spent 30 day with me learning about Non-Jobs).

He showed up at my gym with $0 from his over 5 years of efforts in
building a Non-Job. In the first 2 weeks by my side he earned $300!

He could NOT have gotten results like that just by watching my
videos or reading books. Because if he could, he already would!

I was able to sit with him, look at what he was doing and offer
immediate, actionable things for him to do – and THIS is why he
earned more in 14 day with me, then in 5 years of study alone.

So… here is my invitation to you.

I want to help you build you Non-Job. I want to SEE YOU face to
face so that I might get a sense of who you are, what you are doing
and where I can best steer your efforts.

AND I am not going to charge $5,000, like I invested, in my first
internet marketing workshop.

In fact, I am not even going to charge you 1/5 of that ($1,000).

All you need to invest is a measly $75, which basically covers the
event location costs and presentation equipment I will use to help
you.

Why am I not charging the $5,000 that this workshop would be
worth?

Because I want you to succeed FIRST. I want YOU to earn some
money before I ask you to invest in me.

I want YOU to see just how possible it is to build a Non-Job that
can potentially earn you an extra $100, $1,000 or $10,000 per
month.

But lets start with getting you the first $1. That way you can see
that this shit actually works…. fair?

I’ve got to go now, but all the information about how to join me for
this live Non-Jobs Meet-Up is at the website below.

In part one of this series, I spoke about the importance of healing the digestive system as a way to create a strong foundation for overall strength.

Part 2 will cover the link between your digestive system, hormones, and how they have an effect on your overall health and ability to grow stronger.

When your digestive system is functioning poorly, the body is placed under a hugh burden as it is unable to breakdown and absorb food properly.

This stress may lead to adrenal fatigue, low testosterone, growth hormone, and further complications to the digestive system.

Vital nutrients, which would normally aid in digestion and the development of a healthy immune system, are essentially being lost leaving you open to a wide range of illnesses and infections.

The production of HCl (stomach acid used to break down food) is also compromised leaving undigested food to literally rot in your body releasing toxins while leaving you vulnerable to fungus and parasite infections.

All of these variables place the body in a catabolic (break down) state while suppressing the growth and repair hormones. This condition will not only effect your ability to grow stronger and improve athletic performance, it will also cause a variety of health issues from chronic fatigue, skin infections, stomach ulcers to cancer.

The main cause of this “break down” state is stress.

When the body experiences any type of stress, whether it be emotional, environmental, or physical (digestive), the sympathetic nervous system becomes dominant and takes over hormonal functions.

The sympathetic nervous system, is responsible for responding to stress and keeping us out of danger. It’s typically known as a “fight or flight” response.

The body is preparing to flight for it’s life or run from danger.

Cortisol, the main stress hormone is released, placing the body on high alert and redirecting all blood activity away from your internal organs to your muscles essentially reducing all digestive processes.

If left elevated above normal levels over an extended period of time, cortisol leads to the break down of body tissue, adrenal fatigue, as well as immune and digestive dysfunction.

It’s a two edged sword.

Poor digestion leads to stress, stress leads to poor digestion!

As the sympathetic nervous system is active, the opposite parasympathetic nervous system , aka “the rest and digest” system is suppressed. The parasympathetic nervous system is responsible for the regulation of melatonin, testosterone, estrogen, growth hormones and a healthy immune response. Everything we need to repair, recover, and grow stronger.

When stressed, the body automatically believes it’s in danger and needs to save excess energy by shutting down any system it’s not currently using. During this time the only thing the body is concerned about is safety and survival.

From an evolutionary stand point, this worked extremely well as we were under intense stress for only brief periods of time (ex. running from a lion).

However, today with the high demands of life and poor nutritional choices, our bodies are constantly in a stressed out, catabolic state.

This has a direct impact on the health of our digestive system and immunity as over 80% of your immune system is in your gut!

The protective lining of the small intestine (which acts like a night club bouncer keeping all of the bad guys out of the body) diminishes as stress and cortisol rises. This leaves the body unprotected from bacteria and yeast overgrowth, pathogens, and illness.

All digestion and absorption of nutrients is also compromised, leaving vital minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants, also needed to improve immunity and strength, unable to do their jobs properly.

If growing stronger, whether it be mentally, physically, or emotionally, is a primary goal of yours, healing your digestive system and reducing stress should be of high importance!

Here are some things you can do to heal the digestive system and reduce stress:

1. Ease your daily stress.

Find your biggest stressor and devise a plan to overcome it. This can be a relationship, job, finances, etc. Take time to slow down. Go for walks and focus on deep breathing in order to calm the body.

2. Sleep 7-9 hours a night.

Catching up on sleep activates the parasympathetic nervous system which engages the healing and repair hormones.

3. Experiment with bone broth and fermented foods as they are both very healing to the gut lining.

4. Stick with REAL, WHOLE foods.

These foods help to nourish and heal the body. Raw, fresh greens are an excellent source of anti oxidants which are needed to heal the damage caused by stress and poor nutrition.

5. Limit sugar, grains and processed carbohydrates.

Known to weaken the immune system and feed unwanted parasites and fungus.

Digestive Strength By Eric Hulse

A stable foundation for strength involves more then just a steady improvement
in physical strength and muscular development.

It involves a balancing of all body systems and understanding how they work
together in order to increase over all strength, energy, and health.

Of these systems, the health of the digestive system is crucial to establishing
a foundation of strength that is vital and strong.

The digestive system is responsible for the majority of your immune
function and the proper absorption of nutrients needed to develop
and rebuild muscles, cells and organs.

When the digestive system is compromised, the rest of the body
systems suffer due to their inability to receive proper fuel and
energy.

Those with poor functioning digestive systems will experience:

- Fatigue
- Poor recovery time and muscle growth
- Chronic illnesses
- Irritable bowel
- Decreased sex drive and function
- Skin irritations (acne, rashes, fungus, dandruff)
- Poor sleeping patterns

A damaged digestive system is typically a result of stress and the stress caused
by poor nutrition habits.

Healing the digestive system involves learning how to handle stress
appropriately and understanding which foods play a role in damaging the
gut lining.

Through my own personal experience and through my experiences working
with clients, I have found that removing irritating foods, particularly gluten,
has a positive impact on the health and repair of the digestive system.

What is gluten and how does it affect the body?

Gluten is a protein found in several grains including barley, rye,
oats, wheat, kamut, teff, couscous and spelt.

Some people (mostly those from English, Irish, Scandinavian, and Eastern
European decent), have a gene that causes them to have an intolerance to
gluten and can cause severe health concerns.

In these cases, gluten (more specifically gliadin, the amino acid found in
the gluten protein portion or certain grains) directly impacts the gut lining
of the small intestine by damaging the gut flora and creating small
separations throughout the lining.

This is called leaky gut syndrome. When this happens, small undigested
food partials “leak” through into the blood stream causing a verity of
autoimmune issues.

The body sees these food particle as a toxic invader which sends the
immune system on high alert and directly into attack mode.

In addition to the stress placed on the immune system, gluten causes
the microvilli in the small intestines to flatten out and weakens
its function of absorbing nutrients into the body.

Picture a large city filled with skyscrapers (the villi) and along comes a
deadly bomb (gluten) which completely blows up and demolishes the
buildings. Youʼre now left with nothing but rubble and no fully standing
buildings!

Figure 3. This graph shows the progression of healthy villi to
damaged villi.

When the villi are destroyed, important nutrients are unable to enter
the body which would normally keep us healthy and strong. Essentially,
our immune system becomes severally compromised!

Itʼs no wonder that the majority of Americans are walking
around over weight, sick, and under nourished.

They are eating plenty of food and plenty of calories but
unable to fully absorb the nutrients!

I hope itʼs becoming clear to you why food is the first place to
look when wanting to increase your vitality and life force.

It has a direct impact on our over all energy and well being.

Not only do we become the food we eat, it can completely destroy
the body.

Parasites, Fungus, and Inflammation

As the microvilli begin to flatten out, small craters (similar to pot holes)
begin to develop called crypts.

These small divots in the gut lining end up making a nice home for any
parasites (and their eggs) that may have found their way into the small
intestines.

These small parasites (bugs) use your body as a host draining you of
energy, causing disease, and increasing your cravings for
sugar and refined carbs (which is what they thrive on).

Now I donʼt know about you, but I certainly donʼt want bugs hiding
anywhere in my body, stealing my energy, robbing me of my strength
and making me ill!

Due to the structural damage gluten causes to the small intestine, the
body responds by inflaming the harmed areas.

Inflammation is the bodies way of reacting to injury.

As the gut continues to inflame, the protective layer of mucus which
normally acts like an army of soldiers fighting off bacteria, pathogens,
and fungus, is weakened and looses itʼs function to keep you healthy
and thriving.

This is the reason why itʼs so easy for parasites to enter the gut and
reside for an extended period of time. There is no barrier of
protection to keep them away leaving your body extremely
vulnerable.

The overgrowth of fungus in the body is also a potential problem
when the gut lining has been damaged.

Due to a compromised immune system, the fungus is now left free
to grow throughout the body causing infections.

Because parasites and fungus are living organisms, they will
eventually die off.

When this occurs, they release myotoxins which overwhelm the
detoxification pathways of the body leading to a wide variety of
negative symptoms.

Symptom of a parasite or fungal infection include:

- Degenerative changes in the skin
- Acne
- Loose, foul smelling stools
- Dandruff
- Jock itch
- Athlete’s Food
- Anal itching
- Brain fog
- Joint pain
- IBS
- Immune stress
- Fatigue
- Depression
- Allergies
- Gruanulomas (tumor like parasite encasements)
- Decreased sex drive and sexual performance
- Malnutrition

Stress, Cortisol and Adrenal Fatigue

Due to the overwhelming demand placed on the immune system,
as well as an increase in chronic, systemic inflammation, the body
undergoes a lot of stress.

As stress increases, the hormone cortisol is released.

This hormone which was meant to keep the body alert and focused in the
face of danger, was meant to be released in small, sporadic dosages.

However, when we experience a prolonged period of stress from a hectic
lifestyle and poor eating habits, cortisol is constantly being released into
the body.

This over abundance of cortisol in the body further causes immune
suppression as well as a catabolic/breakdown state to exist in the body
exhausting the adrenals leading to fatigue, depression, loss of
libido, allergies, frequent illness, etc.

Recovery

“Doctors pour drugs of which they know little, to cure diseases which
they know less, into human beings of whom they know nothing.” – Voltaire

One of the tricky things about the domino effect of illnesses caused
by a gluten intolerance/sensitivity is that they often go undiagnosed or
misdiagnosed.

Conventional medical wisdom would often rather treat symptoms
instead of root causes when addressing issues with gluten.

These illnesses are usually masked with heavy doses of antibiotics used to
suppress their reoccurring symptoms. This worsens the situation by killing
off many of the beneficial bacteria which can promote health and healing.

This is not an attack on the medical profession but rather a need to look deeper
into healing the body as well as a call for us to develop a more intimate
relationship with our bodies.

It’s time we fall back on our intuition and connection with the healing that
nature and a less stressful lifestyle can offer us.

Given half a change the body will heal itself. However it needs our love,
commitment and patience in order to do so.

Healing the Gut

“To insure good health: eat lightly, breathe deeply, live moderately,
cultivate cheerfulness, and maintain an interest in life.” ~William Londen

1. Eliminate all gluten from your diet.

2. Eliminate all processed foods and sugar from your diet.

Rule of thumb: If it’s in a box, bag, package, or heavily marketed, it’s most
likely bad for you.

3. Increase your intake of probiotic rich foods such as sauerkraut
and tempeh.

These foods will add beneficial, healthy bacteria back into your gut promoting
a faster recovery.

4. Find ways to decrease the amount of stress in your life.

Stress of any kind will hamper the immune system preventing your body to
fully respond to any illnesses caused to fungus, pathogens, and gluten allergies.

Meditation
Mindful walks in nature
Developing meaning relationships with family and friends
Finding a career that brings you joy
Explore your creative energy by finding an artistic hobby

5. Spend more time “working in” (calming exercises) rather than
working out.

Balancing the energies of the body with exercises such as yoga and tai chi will
aid in bringing more focus and attention to the needs of the body. It also causes
less stress on the body then intense workout sessions.

6. Develop better sleeping habits.

Sleeping 7 – 8 hours per night and getting to sleep by 10:30 pm will help the body
realign its natural circadian rhythm helping to balance out the stress and healing
hormonal out put in the body.

7. Experiment with anti-fungals.

Anti-fungals such as oregano oil help to decrease inflammation, improve immune
function, and treat bacterial infections.

In addition to these, journaling your thoughts, showing gratitude, and spending
time in quiet reflection, are all ways to increase your life force and heal the
body/mind.

The importance of living is such a way to promote optimal strength can not be
overstated.

This is apparent by simply walking down the street and observing the unhealthy
state most people are in today. You will notice overweight, tired people who lack
vitality, excitement and clarity.

By focusing on your own energies and putting loving thought into
increasing your strength by nourishing your body with healing foods
and nourishing your mind and emotions through making the proper
adjustments to your lifestyle, is the only way to recover.

“It’s never too late, it’s never too bad, you’re never too old, you’re never too sick
to start from scratch once again, to be born once again.” – Bikram Choudhury

Part two of this series will focus on balancing out the energies of the
body by eating for healthy blood sugar regulation.

If you’ve been watching my YouTube videos or reading my newsletter for some time, you have no doubt heard me say, “ Strength is a function of the nervous system.”

What this means is that the physical expression of your muscles is fueled by the “electricity” produced by your central nervous system.

With this understanding, you realize how important it is for your nervous system to be functioning effectively. This means there is a smooth line of communication between your central nervous system, the peripheral nervous system and the muscles and organs it innervates.

Often, though, we find that the nervous system will drive unequal amounts of energy to different muscles in the body. You experience this, for example, through muscular tension located in the upper back and neck during times of high stress and fear.

This muscular tension is normal and natural, the problem is when it becomes chronic. When these muscular tensions become unconscious, through chronic repetition, we will tend to hold this tension without even realizing that are doing so. You may have heard me call this unconscious muscular tension “neurotic holding patterns” .

By unconsciously holding this muscular tension we drain our nervous energy reserves, this inefficiency often leads to lethargy, muscular imbalances, poor breathing habits, poor posture, and a host of other physiological and psychological dysfunction.

Have you ever felt tense and tired at the same time?

If so, you have experienced the type of neurotic muscular holding patterns that I’ve described.

In my experience the best way to rid ourselves of these neurotic holding patterns and free the nervous system to express itself fully throughout the entire muscular system is with Bioenergetic Exercise and Dynamic Meditation.

Bioenergetic exercise is a form of mind-body exercise developed by Alexander Lowen. You can learn more about the science of Bioenergetics through this book, as well as all of the publications by Bioenergetic Press, a company owned by my mentor Dr. Robert Glazer.

But if you’re looking to get started right away I’ve created this video featuring several bioenergetic exercises combined with athletic warm-up movements.

I’ve also created this video which features stretches and exercises designed to improve your posture and deepen your breathing capacity. Like I’ve always said you got to breathe into your balls, And this video will show you how.

Finally, I like to use the following Active Meditation, developed by a man named OSHO. You can learn more about OSHO and Active Meditation at this website.

(This works like MAGIC for relaxing the entire mind and body!)

If you are committed to becoming the strongest version of yourself, then you must consider all aspects of strength.

I have boiled these aspects of strength down into what I call The Four Layers Of Strength. Today we have explored aspects of the third layer of strength, which I call Energetic Strength.

Energetic Strength is all about how the brain and central nervous system impact the stature and expression of your entire physical organism via the energy it produces and how it characterizes itself through your body.

According to many traditions, including Chinese
medicine, everything in nature possesses both
masculine and feminine qualities.

Water is feminine in its yielding, which allows it
to take the shape of the container it is in.

Water can also act in a masculine manner though its
extinguishing effect on fire.

Earth is feminine in it’s life producing capacity when
implanted by a seed.

Earth may also act in a masculine manner thought
its kinetic energy demonstrated through an avalanche.

The annual seasons can be classified by masculine
(hot, dry) and feminine qualities (cold, wet).

Electricity is possible though the energy produced
between positive (masculine) and negative (feminine)
energy poles.

And even the digital technology which brings this
text message to you is powered by the interaction
of a series of ON and OFF switches.

In the poem of Genesis “The Tree Of Wisdom”
imparts knowledge of tov wa-ra.

The traditional translation is “good and evil”, but
tov wa-ra is a fixed expression denoting “everything,”
rather than a moral concept.

EVERYTHING is male / female.

There is no full expression of the masculine, in absence
of the feminine.

This is also apparent in our sport of strength or muscle
building.

There is no ANABOLIC without CATABOLIC.

We have to break down (male) in order to build up
(female).

To separate and demonize one side of this two sided
coin is to demonize EVERYTHING that exists.

As men, sometimes we have to embrace our woman-ness
to become more masculine.

It is ALL tov wa-ra.

A lot of people are going to feel uncomfortable about the things I am about to share with you.

You might even want to argue with me and say that I am not being realistic.

Perhaps you are right, but all that anyone of us really KNOWS is what we’ve experienced. You can read all the books in the world; attend all the colleges in the world; and study with the greatest masters of all time…

…but still, all of your so-called knowledge will simply be BORROWED.

You only come to TRULY know something when you have personally experienced it.

Life is dynamic, and as history shows us time and again… things change, rules are broken and the world continues to evolve.

To EXPERIENCE is to know first hand, what is real and possible NOW.

And it has been my personal experience that if you live to do what you love FIRST... you will enjoy a creative and meaningful life.

Watch this very important video, by Alan Watts (a man whose words have shaped my thinking for almost 20 years).

If you like this video, I highly recommend this audio series.

For those of you who are angered and fearful about this message…. I invite you to let go of past conditioning and think creatively for just a moment. See the world as wonderful, as you did when you were 5 years old.

Just play with the idea for a moment, there is no harm in thinking. Then ask yourself “What is the worst that could happen if you chose to live a life for the love of creativity, as opposed to through the fear of lack and death?”

As Alan Watts described, you are already miserable doing what you NEED to do to live, only to continue your miserable existence.

For those of you who are inspired by this message, I invite you to put yourself in a place to experience it first hand. — Just like I have.

You all probably know my story of quitting my job and starting my Warehouse Gym business with no money, no clients, no experience… with NOTHING except a young family to feed and $90K in debt.

I decided that I would choose to live by what I love (fitness and philosophy)… or simply perish. For me this decision was DO or DIE. I would not live a life doing anything less than fulfilling the love-seed that god placed in my heart.

And today this is exactly what I do… and I earn a great living, even though dozens of people told me I was being selfish and irresponsible. (most of those people are miserable, so I chose not take their advice)

Not only do I earn a living by creating videos on fitness (Yo Elliott YouTube) , and videos on my personal life philosophies (Elliott Said What? YouTube)…

I also own a thriving strength training gym, and publish books and video products on fitness and philosophy. (you can see most of them here)

The bottom line is this….

Do what you love, and you will love your life.

Money will come.

Don’t worry about safety and security… what is the point of being safe and miserable?

And I, Elliott Hulse, advise YOU and all young people in this world to do this, not because I read a book about it or because I was lucky….

I advise you to do this because I did it.

And it has been the best choice of my life.

I love you… and I want the same for you.

Grow Stronger,
Elliott Hulse

PS – I also have a newsletter dedicated to learning how to earn a living by doing what you love:

http://hulsestrength.com/go/4th-layer-news

In a few weeks I will be sharing a new video program with you that I created about this also.

My good friend Dirk Gorman, who you may be familiar with from an interview I did with him a few years ago, sent me this e mail today… I liked it so much that I’ve decided to share it with you here

Elliott, I have noticed you using “inspire” or versions of the word more often lately. I had been asked to write the article below for several executives in Corp America and thought the difference between inspiration and motivation parallels nicely with your mission. Please keep up the great work. I find your beliefs on: strength training techniques, supplements, and spirituality excellent. Thank you for your consistent efforts. – Dirk

Are you a motivating or inspiring leader?

While these terms are often used interchangeably, as synonyms, uncovering distinct differences between inspiration and motivation will help us clearly articulate the most effective leadership style.

To begin, let’s review the etymology and definition of each word:
Motivate: [Latin, movere--to move.] 1. motivate, v. give an incentive for action (synonyms: incite, prompt, propel, impel, move to action)
Inspire: [Latin, spirare--to breathe.] 1. inspire, v. to breathe life into.

These definitions help illuminate the clear and distinct differences between actions that motivate and those that inspire. It is critical to understand these distinctions in order to appreciate the impact that each style of messaging has on employees. The goal of this leadership article is to provide the facts that define these two diverging leadership approaches. These facts combined with the resulting impact of each action help us decide which type of leader we are on the path to becoming–inspiring or motivating.

By definition–or, more precisely, by deep etymology–the motivational leader looks to impel and push employees to increase their productivity. The motivational leader is focused almost exclusively on the end result–i.e., increased production. Prioritizing the end result, these leaders therefore use whatever means necessary to achieve the desired goal. Motivational leaders use an assortment of techniques to coerce employees to achieve what management wants them to achieve. While some dangle reward and opportunity as an incentive, more often than not the motivational leader–due to frustration caused by sub-par performance–resorts to bribery, fear-mongering, and threats. Incentive-driven, motivational management embraces the philosophies of “carrot and stick,” “cause and effect,” and “the ends justify the means.” Motivational management, the prevailing leadership philosophy for business in the 20th century, has been proven effective for short-term bursts of activity and algorithmic (i.e., repetitive) tasks. However, in jobs that require creative solutions (e.g., sales) the carrot and stick approach both stifles creativity and decreases long-term productivity. (See Daniel Pink, Drive, on the problems caused by extrinsic incentives.)

Many sales leaders are ex-athletes who have been exposed to endless motivational half-time speeches during their athletic careers.

These emotional speeches are specifically designed to ignite the team to increase performance in the 2nd half of the game–short burst. Unfortunately, too many sales leaders regularly incorporate this half-time motivational style into their communication repertoire. Motivation reflects the Kick-in-the-Ass method (KITA), which coaches expertly deploy. The business world, however, is vastly different from high school and college sports; in the business world, KITA has a limited shelf-life. Business leaders can not afford to lose their best players every four years. Unlike high school and college coaches, who lose players to graduation, motivational leadership does not work because it exhausts employees and leads to turnover or tuning out. Both results are unproductive and create poor long-term performance.

In the famed movie, GlenGarry Glen Ross by David Mamet, Blake (Alec Baldwin) delivers a memorable and entertaining speech.

He berates the salesmen, calling them losers, tells them to put the coffee down–”coffee’s for closers,” and then explains how the sales contest will work: first prize–a brand new Cadillac; second prize–set of steak knives; and third prize–you’re fired. The speech is certainly entertaining–probably the most memorable scene of the movie–and also a vivid example of motivational leadership. Baldwin, the ass-kicker, delivers a coercive speech intended to motivate through fear and intimidation. He offers a reward for the highest performer and a threat for everyone else. Too many sales leaders emulate the Baldwin style rant. These carrot and stick tirades coupled with leadership’s glorious memories of high school half-time speeches have convinced too many leaders that motivational leadership is the way to go.

The barking-coach style is exhausting for both the leader and the led. The leader inevitably runs out of verbal ammunition and the staff eventually tunes out the rants and threats. The word-battered employees look for new jobs, the team’s performance fizzles, and leadership burns out. Ironically, the rah-rah rallying approach–when it goes on too long–only
serves to divide.

Unlike short-sided motivational leadership, inspiring leadership focuses on personal growth, improvement, and optimism. Etymologically speaking, inspiring leadership is literally “breathing life and vitality into” its followers. By creating a challenging platform for personal development and improvement, the inspirational leader increases the enthusiasm of both the individual employee and the company. The more energy and vigor each employee bring to work, the better the company will do. The best competitive advantage any company can have is a culture of enthusiastic, optimistic, and committed employees. To achieve the goal of high-performing employees and sustainable corporate performance, leadership must provide the tools and education required to improve performance over the long-term. Because its vision goes beyond short bursts of increased production, inspirational leadership successfully maps out a path for sustainable growth.

Previously, we used the Baldwin rant to dramatically depict motivational leadership. Returning, Baldwin’s debasing rant magnifies the sharp contrast between motivational leadership and and inspirational leadership. Unlike inspirational leaders–Ghandi, King, and Mother Theresa–Baldwin never provides a path for the salesmen to improve and merely uses threats to increase activity. This rant is not optimistic and is only focused on the end result. His goal, a short term burst of activity and the means to this end is the bullying directive–fight for your job or starve. In truth, how constructive was the Baldwin rant? He verbally abuses and mocks all the sales people, reinforcing their inferiority and creates fear by threatening jobs. Unlike simple-mined bullying, inspirational leadership requires more skill and sensitivity. The inspirational leader designs and communicates a clear pathway to individual improvement. Consistently cultivating an atmosphere of optimism and growth, the inspirational leader doesn’t brow beat with fear but instead energizes the team towards common pursuit. As the team develops and improves, the leader help each member evolve into a stronger and more independent version of him or herself.

We now need to state a frank truth: to inspire, leaders must have accomplished inspiring feats in their own pasts. When employees have faith in their leader’s legitimacy, the leaders then have the moral authority to lay out the vision, path, and destination that they will together achieve. It is this horizon-reaching vision that improves both the lives of the individual and the collective. The inspirational leader never takes a day off–they live, breathe, and communicate the vision continuously. The inspirational leader embodies the quest and delivers the vision with clarity and certainty. The inspirational leader makes the destination close enough to see and yet far enough to willingly endure hardship to reach it. Although they are not business leaders as such, heroic figures such as Mahatma Ghandi, Martin Luther King Jr., and Mother Theresa are excellent examples of inspirational leadership.

The intent of this leadership review is not to completely dismiss motivational leadership, there are short contexts where motivational leadership certainly has its place in the business world–i.e., year-end push. But ultimately, motivational leadership has too many deficiencies to be management’s foundational style. By and large, the overall tone of leadership must be inspirational with motivational leadership sprinkled in at the occasional moment.

Inspirational leaders are inspired and inspiring.

I would normally make a video on my Elliott Hulse YouTube Channel for a question like this but I have been super busy since the children have gotten out of school this week. (don’t worry I’ll get back to posting videos again soon).

Anyway, here is a question from someone that I really wanted to answer. I wrote him a text answer but since I thought the topic to be an important one, I’ve posted it here for you to read.

QUESTION: (edited and paraphrased) I cant find one thing in my life worth living for i feel trapped, ive always believed that if your not happy you should stop and change the things that are making you unhappy but this time i feel trapped every thing i try and do comes to a dead end.

im almost 26 and live at home in my old room and the reel reason im down is i have a girlfriend that dose not love me even though i love her more than any one in the world, i know that when im with her there is still apart of her that is wishing i was her ex a guy who used to beat her and cheated on her i know she loves him instead of me and is pushing me away more and more because she is not over him she even tried to kill her self when he left and i promised my self and her i wouldn’t hurt her like that and now im the one getting hurt, every time i talk about how i feel she says it not all about me and i should man up and accept it.

What to do?

ELLIOTT’S OFFER: A few things to consider…

First, you’re right, life isn’t “worth” anything except for what you decide it’s worth.

But its hard to give life value if you’re not actually LIVING in it. Life is lived in the body, not the mind. The body is what experiences pleasure and pain, not the mind… the mind can only create pictures.

That said, do you exercise? — You need to breathe deep and get in touch with your body first. No philosophy or theorizing can help this… you simply have to move.

Begin by doing my Bioenergizer Warm Up everyday… several times a day if you can.

Next, modern relationships are funny.

Sex and relationship between men and women is composed of two elements… tenderness and aggression.

Both sexes posses each element, but woman are naturally more “tender” while men are more “aggressive” by nature.

But our roles have become confused and reversed. Women have given away their tenderness in order to adopt the aggressive attitude that our neurotic world values so much… and men have shed their aggressiveness to become more politically correct and acceptable in our mixed up world.

So we end up with women who have lost their natural place as “tender receivers and nurturers” who now walk around with a facade of “aggressiveness”. But naturally they want to receive aggression from men (not beating, but just assertive behavior)… the paradox is that they say they want a “nice guy”, meaning non-assertive (this is due to a longing to embrace their own rejected tenderness).

Men trying to be “nice”, suppress their natural tendency to aggress towards women and in life… they end up becoming become a passive player in the relationship.

This leaves everyone confused. Women with too much penis attitude, yet starving for an aggressor. And men who have suppressed their natural aggression and adopted a “pussy” attitude in order to be nice (tender / passive).

Its all fucked up.

What YOU need to do is “man up”.

This means find your place in the world FIRST. The way you aggress towards the world is going to be an indicator to women as to how you might aggress sexually towards them.

Woman want to invite a man “in” who is “out” in the world. He is a doer… he is a DICK! (meaning extends himself towards the world and his woman)

You mentioned that you have a business… get you business right.

Get OUT in the world, begin to exercise and THEN women will be begging to invite you in.

Good luck!

This weekend I spoke at my friend Zach Even Esh’s Underground Conference.

I spoke with the group about some of my ideas pertaining to the 3rd Layer Of Strength, “Energetic Strength”.

I use the word spoke lightly because what I offered the group was more of an experience rather than a speech.

You can see what Zach and others have to say about it on the videos at the bottom of this website. http://hulsestrength.com/go/growing-stronger-maine-2012

Anyway, the point of this post is to share something powerful that I learned from one of the other speakers, Dax Moy.

Dax used the word GURU to describe himself. But before throwing that word around he gave us some insight as to what it really means and why he’s embraced it as a title.

First, Dax taught us that the word GURU come from the Sanskrit terms gu (गु) and ru (रु) which stands for darkness and light, respectively.

Essentially the guru is someone who sheds light where there is darkness. Or in other terms, he offers insight and awareness into ways of being that may not otherwise have been illuminated for people to choose to walk in.

When you teach your clients that eating sugar suppresses their immune system and causes them to become weak and sick, you are acting as a guru. You are simply shedding light (understanding) where there was darkness (ignorance).

One of the most magical things about gurus are that they can often bring strength to others simply though their presence. I often say that by “becoming The Stronger Version Of Yourself you give other people permission to do the same, without even saying a word!”

In a way, we are ALL gurus.

For example, my daughter Emerson (yes, named after Ralph Waldo) is unceasingly generous. She ALWAYS thinks of others, especially when she has something that the others don’t. She is compelled to share! So we nicknamed her “Generous Emer”.

I wish I could take credit for her generosity but the fact is that I am far more selfish than she is. At only 5 years old, my daughter has shown me how to be more generous.

Without saying a word she has shown me “the light” and given me permission to be more giving of my time and possessions.

In a way, she is one of my gurus.

You also have a guru inside you.

There are stories that you can share, insights that you have gleaned, experienced that you’ve learned from that may shed light on a dark area in someone’s life.

You have gifts that may change someones life… if only you shared it with them

That is why I take The 4th Layer Of Strength so seriously.

That is why I created The 4th Layer Business Workshop for you to attend.

And it is also why I’m offering it at such a low cost.

I know that one of my gifts is the ability to motivate and inspire people to become Stronger Versions Of Themselves. I also have the technical understanding of HOW to take your knowledge and gifts and help you share it with the world via the internet.

When you use the system I’ll teach you at the workshop, you’ll not only fulfill your legacy… you’ll learn how to earn a living by doing what you love most. Helping others.
